Data Scientist – Time Series, Big Data & Open Data
Mind in a Box is looking for a Data Scientist with strong expertise in time series analysis, big data processing, and open data integration to support a growing pipeline of data-intensive AI projects.
You will work on real-world, production-grade AI systems deployed in data-intensive, regulated, and mission-critical environments, where reliability, security, and operational constraints matter as much as model performance. Our solutions are designed to integrate with diverse enterprise ecosystems and technology stacks, with a strong emphasis on the Microsoft ecosystem (Azure, data platforms, and AI services) in the context of certain client engagements, while requiring solid vendor-agnostic fundamentals, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to design portable and scalable AI and data architectures.
Role Overview
As a Data Scientist, you will:
- Design, develop, and optimize time series models and big data pipelines
- Work on open data integration applied to enterprise and operational data
- Contribute to model evaluation, validation, and observability in production contexts
- Collaborate closely with DataOps, MLOps, and infrastructure specialists
- Translate business and operational requirements into robust AI solutions
- Communicate insights and limitations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
This is a full-time, remote role, with the requirement to be based in Québec.
Core qualifications (must-have)
- Strong background in Data Science, Statistics, and Machine Learning
- Demonstrated experience with big data processing and open data integration
- Proficiency in Python and SQL
- Experience working with large-scale, time series, or semi-structured data
- Solid understanding of data pipelines and model lifecycle (experimentation, deployment and operational constraints)
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Professional working proficiency in English; proficiency in French is an asset
- Québec residency (or readiness to be domiciled in Québec in the short term)
Technical skills (highly valued)
- Experience with Microsoft AI & data ecosystem (Azure, data platforms, Synapse)
- Familiarity with NoSQL technologies, particularly Elastic or OpenSearch
- Experience handling real-time and streaming data pipelines
- Familiarity with LLM, RAG, and modern NLP techniques
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and cost considerations in enterprise environments
- Experience with geospatial data
Profile & mindset
- Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong analytical rigor combined with pragmatic engineering judgment
- Ability to interpret and align with management, customer, and project constraints
- Motivation to contribute to R&D activities, experimentation, and—when relevant—scientific ortechnical publications
