Understanding the end of Microsoft Dynamics GP

Microsoft is phasing out Dynamics GP: no new licences will be issued, functional updates will cease on 31 December 2029, and security patches will end on 30 April 2031.

April 1, 2026: Microsoft will stop selling subscription licenses for Dynamics GP.

January 11, 2028: End of standard support for Dynamics GP 2018 R2 (as part of the fixed lifecycle).

After 2028: Extended support for certain versions will continue but will be limited in scope.

December 31, 2029: End of product enhancements, regulatory updates, service packs, and technical support. Last year-end update for Dynamics GP.

April 30, 2031: End of security updates for Dynamics GP and end of subscription billing and SPLA usage, marking the official end of the product’s life.

Yes, technically you can. But without updates or patches, the system becomes more vulnerable and more expensive to maintain.

Increased vulnerability to security breaches, lack of evolution, incompatibility with new tax requirements (Canada/US), higher long-term maintenance costs.

Impact on your business

Not in the short term. But as your business evolves and regulatory requirements change, GP will no longer be able to keep up.

Until December 31, 2029, Microsoft will continue to support tax forms (T4, RL-1, W2, 1099, etc.). After this date, there will be no further official tax updates.

Your data will remain available, but without security patches provided by Microsoft, it will be more vulnerable to potential breaches.

Microsoft recommends migrating to its modern cloud solutions: Dynamics 365 Business Central (ideal for SMEs) or Dynamics 365 Finance (for large companies with complex operations).
